Huskie Volleyball Club

The goal of the Huskie Volleyball Club is to prepare athletes for university volleyball and national level competition.


Thank-you to all the players, parents, and coaches that made the 2018 such a successful season for HVC! All 11 teams finished in Tier 1 at provincials, and the club took home 5 medals including 3 provincial champions (18U Female, 18U Male, 13U Female), a silver (17U Male), and a bronze (16U female).

 

MENS OPEN TRYOUTS

The Huskie Volleyball Club will be holding OPEN tryouts for their 16U and 17/18U Men's teams. We invite all interested players out to participate...no experience necessary.



The tryout will be on December 2 from 8 am-noon at the Physical Activity Centre, University of Saskatchewan. The HVC coaches are asking participants to arrive at 7:45am for this Sunday morning tryout. This will allow us to finish in-person registration by 8:15am. There will also be a $5 fee for tryouts payable in cash upon registration Sunday morning.

2019 Club Coaching Staff

Robyn Flaman will be coaching the HVC 13U A team for the 2019 season! Robyn had an excellent playing career spending 4 seasons on the U of S Huskies team. After her playing career ended she gave back by coaching provincial teams and recently club volleyball. Robyn has her Advanced Development Coach certification and brings the following coaching experience to her team:

  • 2000’s – 16U Female SK Provincial Team
  • 2012 – 16U Female Sol VC
  • 2013 – 17U Female Sol VC
  • 2014 – 18U Female HVC, Tier 1, Div 1 – Provincial Silver Medalists
  • 2018 – 13U Female HVC, Tier 1, Div 1 – 7th place

Bryan Lundsten will be coaching the HVC 16U B team for the 2019 season! Bryan, an Advanced Development Coach, brings the following coaching experience to his team:

  • Many seasons with Wakaw Volleyball
  • 2017 – 14U Female HVC
  • 2018 – 15U Female HVC, Tier 1, 8th Place

Helping Bryan again this year will be Chad Anderson. Chad was co-coach with the HVC 15U Female and assistant coach with the HVC 13U Female teams in 2018, and assistant coach in 2017 with HVC 14U Female team.

Jay Magus will be coaching the HVC 14U A Female team for the 2019 season! Jay set 5 years for the U of S Huskies and was Canada West First-Team All-Star 4 times, and U-Sports First-Team All-Canadian twice. He also played 3 years with Team Canada Men’s Team and participated in the 1991 and 1993 FISU Games, the 1995 Pan Am Games, the 1995 World Cup, and the 1993 and 1995 NORCECA Championships. Jay, an Advanced Development Coach, brings the following coaching experience to his team:

Two great assistant coaches will be helping Jay this year. Darla Lee-Walde played several seasons for the U of S Huskies in the 1990’s and then played women’s football as a founding member of the Valkyries Football Team and winning several national titles. Scott MacDonald played volleyball for the U of R Cougars for 5 years and then gave back by jumping into coaching. He has previously coached club volleyball in Prince Albert and also with Darla and Jay the last two seasons with HVC.

Denise Chapman will be coaching the HVC 15U A Female team for the 2019 season! Denise was a setter for the U of S Huskies for 5 years from 1994 thru 1998. After her playing career Denise, a certified Development Coach, turned to coaching:

Assisting Denise will be Kaitlyn Robin. Kaitlyn played for the Saskatoon Chaos VC from 2006-2014. Recently she has begun her coaching career:

Matt and Anna Erickson will be assistant coaching the HVC 17U Female team for the 2019 season! Matt played 4 seasons for the U of S Huskies and Anna brings experience from 4 seasons playing at the Columbia Bible College. Matt, a Certified Development Coach, brings the following coaching experience to the squad:

Troy and Regan Wiebe will be coaching the HVC 18U Female team for the 2019 season! Troy, who will be the head coach, just finished playing his 3rd season for the U of S Huskies as a setter, and prior to this played 2 seasons for Grande Prairie College. Regan played 3 seasons for Brandon University, and will be playing her 2nd season with the U of S Huskies in 2018-19!

Troy and Regan were both assistant coaches with the 16U HVC Female team last season, and Regan was also an assistant coach with the 18U HVC Female team in 2017.

Jayden Weber will be coaching the HVC 16U A Female team for the 2019 season! Jayden played several summers on provincial teams, and two seasons for the U of S Huskies. Jayden is a Certified Development Coach, and brings the following coaching experience to her team:

Emily Humbert will be coaching the HVC 15U B Female team for the 2019 season! Emily, a 5 year Huskie, played as a middle blocker for the University and was a U-Sports Academic All-Canadian. Emily is a Certified Development Coach, and brings the following coaching experience to her team:

  • 2014 to 16 – HVC Female Assistant Coach, placing top 2 in provincials each year
  • 2018 – 17U HVC Female, Tier 1, 4th place

Leanne McGettigan will be coaching the HVC 14U B Female team for the 2019 season! After winning the Gold medal at the 1989 Jeux Canada Games, Leanne played university volleyball for 5 years as a left side hitter, and was U-Sports All-Canadian 3 times. In 1991 she won a Silver medal at the U-Sports Championships, and also was a member of Team Canada’s B team. Her coaching resume is equally impressive:

  • Masters degree in Human Kinetics in coaching science
  • Graduate of the National Coaching Institute
  • 1993 and 2009 – Jeux Canada Games Female Team Sask, Assistant Coach
  • 2000’s – 16U Female Team Sask’s – Gold and Silver finishes at NTCC’s

Jodie Wagner will be the assistant coach for the HVC 16U A Female team for the 2019 season! Jodie is a 5 year Huskie playing for the U of S from 1993-98 after playing in the 1993 Jeux Canada Games for Team Sask. Jodie, a certified Development Coach, has the following coaching experience:

  • 2014 – 13U HVC Female, Tier 1, Div 1 – Provincial Silver Medalists

Deane Martin Gray will be an assistant coach with the U13 female A team for the 2019 season! Deane has a long connection with Sask volleyball as an athlete, coach, and official. She has over 26 years of successful coaching at the high school level, and has coached at many camps as well. She is a two time SHSAA 4A provincial champion, SK Winter Games silver medalist, and Co- Ed National Bronze Medalist. This is her second year coaching with HVC.

Sandi Scissons-Nieth will be coaching the HVC 12U team for the 2019 season! Sandi is a physical education k-12 specialist whose focus in on fundamental skills and technique making her a great addition to this age group! Sandi has coached in the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and has won numerous city and provincial titles at both the junior and senior levels. Sandi has her NCCP Level 1 and brings the following coaching experience to her team:

TOM GRAHAM, 17U/18U HVC Male Team, Head Coach . Tom Graham will be the head coach of the HVC 17/18U Male team for the 2019 season. Tom’s volleyball experience is unmatched:

  • Member of 1976 Canadian Olympic volleyball team
  • Won 2 U-sports National Championships as a player at the University of Manitoba
  • 1987 Jeux Canada Games Men’s Volleyball Gold Medal, Team Saskatchewan, Head Coach
  • 1988 U-Sports Men’s Volleyball Gold Medal, University of Saskatchewan, Head Coach
  • 1987 U-Sports and Volleyball Canada Coach of the Year

JORDAN NOWAKOWSKI, 16U HVC Male Team, Head Coach Jordan Nowakowski will be the head coach of the HVC 16U Male team for the 2019 season. Jordan recently completed playing 5 years for the Huskies and 2 seasons professionally in Italy, and is currently an assistant coach with University of Saskatchewan Men’s team. Jordan’s experience includes:

  • 2008, and 2010 to 2013, member of Team Saskatchewan
  • 2011 – 2016, 5 year member of the University of Saskatchewan Men’s Volleyball team
  • 2015 – 2016, Team Captain, University of Saskatchewan Men’s Volleyball team
  • 2015 – 2016, Canada West silver medalist, and 4th in U-Sports
  • 2015 – 2016 U-Sports Playoffs, multiple 30 kill matches
  • First CIS kill on my 19th birthday – Nov. 3rd, 2011
